Audience Feedback

Audience Feedback

Below is a general summary of the answers that people gave, with a few quotations, regarding my magazine.

1. How genuine would you say that the front cover looks?

The majority of people gave an answer of genuine and a couple of people said very genuine. The double page spread and the contents were the most authentic and professional according to the survey. For the people who said it wasn’t very genuine some reasons were that on the front cover there was no background and was a bit too plain because there was a lot of white space and the artist and instrument were not too convincing. However most people added that the use of bar codes, prices and web address made the magazine look very professional.

2. Would you be interested in the magazine if you saw it in the shops?
Just under half of the people said they would be interested and just over half said they wouldn’t be. The reason for most of them saying they wouldn’t was that they preferred another genre of music than the one in this magazine. The reasons for the people who said they would be interested were that the magazine looked different to the rest of the magazines in the indie genre and it looked quite interesting. Also they said that it was well laid out and looked professional so it was something that they might be interested in.
3. What genre does it immediately suggest to you?

Everyone said that the genre that they thought the magazine was at first look was indie. Everybody pointed out the title as a reason for them believing it was the indie genre because it is called Indie Express. Also a couple of reasons that people said were that the artist with the instrument looked like an indie artist and the names of the bands were recognized by quite a few people as indie bands.

4. Would you say it is similar to the magazines in this genre or different?

Most people said that some aspects of the magazine were similar to others and some were similar. The most common similar feature that was pointed out was that similar artists were listed in the contents are used in other magazines in this genre and the layout of the magazine was similar to some other ones in that genre. The most common differences were the colour scheme and the fact that the main feature of the magazine was a new band and not an already popular one. Overall people generally found more differences.

5. Do you think that the colour scheme used is effective and is it better than the usual colour schemes?

Everybody said yes to this question. Here is an example of an answer given, “I think that the colour scheme is effective because it is unique and stands out from the rest of the magazines in the indie genre which usually are red, black and white”.

6. Does the layout of the article make you want to read it?

Again everyone said yes to this question and the reasons were that the text didn’t look to bulky, it looked neat and professional, the font and font size looked good and it looked like there was enough content.

7. Is the contents page just an informative piece of information or does it make you interested and want to read more of the magazine?

Most people said that it would probably interest them to read more. The reasons that people gave were that they thought the layout was good as well as the use of the colour scheme and different fonts. Another reason people gave was that there looked like there was a lot of content in the magazine so the chances are that there are a few things that would make me interested.

Target Audience

Indie music is mainly most popular amongst teens and students. Many of them want to aspire to be like the people in the bands and this is one of the reasons why indie music is popular. They also dress and have their hair similar. Jeans are very commonly worn by indie artists and fans as well as zip down jackets, especially dark colours such as black or grey. Also the hair is ussually reasonably long and brown or black. The arctic monkeys, shown on the right, are one of the most popular indie bandsand they follow this trend, which also influances the large fan base.
