Unique selling point

My magazine will be unique because it will be slightly different than the rest of the magazines hat are of a similar genre to mine. I would be similar however in certain aspects of the magazine. These are things such as the layout, the prices would be around a similar range, the magazine name will be big and the main heading will be big, it would feature sub-headings and then a list of the other things that are featured. However my magazine would be different because it would have a slightly different layout to the other magazines, I would have my own unique colour scheme, it would feature a slight mix of genres instead of focusing on one genre meaning that the amount of sales could be raised, also the price could be slightly lower than the competition but sold on a more frequent basis than the others. 

Also my magazine may be different from the rest of them because my magazine will be more focused on the up and coming bands rather than the established ones. But because they have a lot of fans the big bands will be featured because it then makes the range of customers bigger. This makes it unique from the other magazines in the genre such as NME and Kerrang and maybe giving it an edge over them. 

Institution

The institution that I have chosen to produce and distribute my product is IPC Media. They are a big company which means that they will be able to distribute high numbers of magazines and they will be able to attract a lot of advertisement, because they are a established company that the companies who want to advertise can trust.IPC Media produces over 85 iconic media brands, with the print brands alone reaching almost two thirds of UK women and 44% of UK men – almost 27 million UK adults. this means that the number of readers may be higher because of the amount that IPC media can distribute.

Initial ideas

My initial idea for my magazine is to base it on an indie genre and will just be aimed at the one niche audience. I want to have 4 pictures in total on my magazine(1 on the front cover,2 on the contents page and 1 on the inside). I would like to have an interview with a new band, with an image and some quotes that stand out. I would also keep the same colour scheme throughout the whole of the magazine and one that is generally associated with that genre which would be something like black, red and white. I would like to have a big dominant image on the front page of the band or artist that i do the interview with. I would also have a few sub headings of other artists preferably established bands so that it interests more people to buy it because they know who they are and wether they will like it or not. It would also have a barcode and a price tag to make it look more authentic. The title would fit in with the colour scheme so that it would look more neat and professional . The contents page would have the sub headings with a sentence summing up and a couple of pictures but not too clustered. The interview will be over 2 pages and would have different colours depending on who is speaking and 1 or 2 images.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                

Introduction

My name is James Mulholland, I am 16 years old and I have chosen to do the print project. I have chosen to do the magazine because I enjoy music and I want  to base my magazine on an indie genre because that is the music that I am most interested in.
